Xiwu Zhang

February 4, 1928 — April 27, 2021

Xiwu Zhang, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2021, with his son Suisheng by his side. Xiwu was the beloved husband of Zhuoping Huang; loving father of Suisheng (Kathy Hanus) Chang, Patrick (Lauren) and Robert (Judy) Zhang; cherished grandfather of Grace, Frank, Fred and Harvey; dearest brother of Zhang Yingzhu (Song Jingting), fond uncle of Song Hong and Song Wei, and friend of many. He was born in Fengrun, Hebei province of China. He met his future wife Zhuoping Huang while serving in the Chinese Military. He graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University in 1960. He then worked for the China Railway in city of Mudanjiang, on the north east corner of China near the Russian border, a six day train-ride from Guangzhou where his family lived. He was a survivor of the harsh conditions of both the political and natural environments. He taught himself english, and then went on to teach english at the Guangzhou Tieer Middle school, until his retirement in China. After he immigrated to the US, he worked for the City of Chicago Department of Aging for ten years. In his free time during his senior years he taught himself Tai Chi and practiced daily. Visitation Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. The interment will follow at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.
