William J. Kopelares "Bill", age 84, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024. William was the beloved husband of Cynthia, nee Stoyias, for 56 years; loving father of Lainie (Tony) Adrian, Joanna (Todd) Reykjalin (CPD), and Leah Solzak; dear son of the late Helen and John Kopelares; cherished papou of Vasilis Adrian, Erik and Mia Reykjalin and Niklas Solzak; dearest brother of Penny (the late Archie) Geavaras and the late Angela Bell. Dear brother-in-law of Dorothy Stoyias, the late Peter Stoyias and Janet (the late George) Lykos. He was a fond uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Bill was the owner of The Monterey Restaurant in Chicago for many years. His smile, laughter and love will be remembered by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Special thanks to the staff at Glenview Terrace Nursing Home and Suncrest Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in William’s name would be appreciated.
Visitation Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral Thursday, family and friends will meet at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 2727 W. Winona in Chicago where William will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. Greek Orthodox Service, and the interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
