William “Bill” Friel, 86. Suddenly, A 56 year resident of Harwood Heights and Combat Veteran of the Korean War. At rest Sunday, August 14, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Peggy. Loving father of Larry (Marion), Dave (Sue) and Debbie. Devoted son of the late Neil and Ida. Fond grandfather of Tony, Ryan (Marie), Jamie (Danielle), Jackie, Michelle (Michael) Kaylor, Corey, Dr. Alex, Danielle (Lorenzo) Nunez, Diana , Chrissy and the late Michael. Great grandfather of Greyson, Ryan and Ella. Dear brother of Pearl Wilson and the late Dorothy Friel, Violet (the late Ed) Axtman and Robert (June) Friel. Fond uncle and great uncle to many. His wishes were granted and a private graveside service with Military Honors was held on Tuesday, August 16 at the St. Adalbert Cemetery , Niles. He was buried alongside his wife of 57 years. Bill was a retired Iron Worker and a member of Iron Workers Union Local 63. He was know for “watching his grown children” at their jobs. He would frequent Cumberland Chapels visiting his son Larry and watching him conduct funerals, visit his son Dave , a carpenter on job sites across the Chicago metro area. While at the job sites Bill would check the oil on Dave’s car making sure it was at the proper level. His daughter Debbie, a teacher would be visited as well . While she was teaching, Bill would be checking the oil on Debbie’s car , cleaning the car windows and on occasions taking her car to the gas station for a fill up. A man of many qualities, he is best known for being honest, very generous and loyal.
