William J. Burke, age 93, passed away on September 1, 2025. William was born on December 19, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late William Burke and the late Catherine (nee McCarthy) Burke. He was also preceeded in death by his beloved wife Patricia (nee Clifford) for 53 years of marriage and two sisters, Mary (Joseph) Leonetti and Margaret Burke. William is survived by his loving children Thomas Burke, James Burke (Laurinda Cooker), Robert Burke, Daniel (Patricia) Burke, & Margaret (Steven) Wohlfrom and cherished grandfather to 7.
William was a Graduate of Northeastern Illinois University and earned a Masters in Public Administration from Roosevelt University. He was a proud member of the United Order of American Bricklayers and Stone Masons Local 21 for 10 years. 35 year employee with the City of Chicago, retired in 1992. Deputy Commissioner for the Chicago Department of Buildings. Founding member of the Chicago Department of Housing. Started the Chicago Weatherization Program and headed the City of Chicago's original Lead Paint Abatement Program.

Visitation for William will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge,Il. Funeral Saturday, beginning at the funeral home at 9:00 am and then proceed to Queen of Peace Parish at St. Eugene Church for 10:00 am Mass. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
