William "Wil" Betancourt, Deputy Chief Chicago Police Department Area 5, U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Veteran, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2026. Wil was the beloved husband of Ivonne Betancourt (nee Soto) for 27 amazing years; loving father of Nicole Marie (Bart Grochowski) Betancourt, Jessica Marie (Matthew) Hoyas, Dalilah Kristie Villafane, Tyler William and Elijah Betancourt; dearest son of Carmen (nee Rodriguez) and the late Cleofe Betancourt; cherished grandfather of Alani Marie Hoyas and Avery Rose Hoyas; dear brother of Agripino (Brenda), Janet, Cleofe Jr. (Sol), Emerita and Christopher (Maria) Betancourt; fond brother in law of Carlos and Javier Soto, and he was an uncle, nephew, cousin and friend of many.
Wil was a man of deep faith, strong values, and boundless love for his family. He was known for his wisdom, humor, and steady presence, always offering guidance, support, and encouragement. His greatest pride and joy was his family—his devoted and loving wife, his cherished children, and his precious grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. Whether serving his country, leading within the Chicago Police Department, or spending time with his loved ones, Wil gave his whole heart to everything he did. He was the foundation of his family, a constant source of strength, protection, and unconditional love. His legacy of love, service, and integrity will live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Visitation Sunday, January 11, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home, and then proceed to Immaculate Conception Church in Chicago for Mass at 10:30 a.m. The Interment will follow at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
