Walter Stancy

Walter T. Stancy, age 81, passed away suddenly on September 11, 2021. Walter was the beloved husband of Sandra L., nee Small, for 54 wonderful years; loving father of Walter Thomas "Tom", Scott James (Melissa) and Donna Marie (Randy Antes) Stancy; dearest son of the late Mabel and Walter Stancy; cherished grandfather of Jacob, Payton and Caleb; dear brother of Patricia (the late Gene) Gill, David (the late Judy) Stancy, Chris (the late Ron) Stafiej and Edward Stancy; fond uncle of John, Walter, Michael, Dawn and the late Michelle. Walter was a member of Illinois Basketball Coaches Association hall of fame. He was the founder and director for over 27 years of the Junior Warriors feeder basketball program in Des Plaines, IL. Walter was also an educator with the Chicago Public Schools for 38 years. Visitation Friday, September 17, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, and will then proceed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Des Plaines for Mass at 9:30 a.m. The interment will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
