Walter J. Sawkiw, age 88, Veteran U.S. Army WWII, of Norwood Park Township, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012. Beloved husband of 63 years of the late Anne M. (nee Gawaluch) Sawkiw; loving father of Walter D. Sawkiw (Vicki Kraft) and Christine Boehler; cherished grandfather of Aimee (Robert) Laing, Kristen (Harry) Reiter, William (Alyson) Sawkiw, Anne Sawkiw (Mark Watkins), Christine (Joseph) Kreitzer, Elizabeth Boehler (Collin McDowell); proud great-grandfather of Blair, Tate, Sydney, Hayden, Alexander, Mia, McKenzie and Kendall; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents, John and Olga (nee Gudz) Sawkiw, his brother Michael and sisters Ann and Maria. Charter Member of VFW Kosowitz-Evankoe Post 9420; Founding Member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Holy Name Society; Member of Knights of Columbus, Spirit of St. Joseph's and American Legion Post 943.
