Thomas Mcauliff

July 8, 1963 — August 16, 2025

Tom McAuliff, legendary jokester and self-certified master of forged notes, has embarked on his greatest adventure yet-heading to heaven.  Known for once getting out of going to school with a note boldly signed “Mom McAuliff”, Tom’s quick wit and mischievous charm will never be forgotten.

Tom was born July 8, 1963. He attended St. Monica’s school in Chicago. There, Tom made life long friends that meant the world to him, but nothing meant more to him than his family.  Tom’s heart belonged to his wife of 34 years, Nancy, and their children, Ryan (Grace) and Katie and almost son-in-law Marco Melone. His family and loyal walking buddy, Ben, stood beside him every step of the way.

Tom was known for his ability to make others laugh.  He loved telling jokes and teaching his great nephews to “pull his finger”.  Tom had a big heart and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need.  He was a hard worker and dedicated AT&T lineman for 30 years.  He successfully balanced a hot cup of coffee in one hand and climbed a pole with the other.  Why not make gravity more interesting?

He is survived by his brothers Steve (Sara)  and Bob (Julie), four nieces (Danielle, Jill, Emily and Jessica), four nephews (Scott, Michael, Bobby Jr., Brett), three great nephews (Bradley, George, Dean) and one great niece (Nora). They all adored him and inherited at least a little of his mischief. Tom was also the Dearest son-in-law of Norman and Terrelle Nielsen and brother-in-law of Mark and Margaret Nielsen. He’s now reunited with his brother Dan (Sandy) and parents Pat and Barb and is surely organizing shenanigans and causing celestial chaos.

Visitation for Tom will take place on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence, Norridge, Illinois. A service will follow visitation from 5:00-6:00 pm. We would love it if you would share a short, favorite story about Tom during the service so we can fill the room with the laughter he so loved to hear.
