Susan L. Gerambia, (nee Schwerdtmann), age 68, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024. Susan was born on September 29, 1956 in Chicago, IL, dearest daughter of the late Kate and Ranny Schwerdtmann. Susan was the beloved wife of James for 45 devoted years; loving mother of Paula (Robert) Lonero and Laura (Richard Loree) Gerambia; and cherished grandmother of Anthony, Brianna, Gianna, and Peyton, who were the light of her life. She is survived by her siblings, Kathy (Ken) Kohler, Patty (the late Tom) Mitchell, and Nancy Schwerdtmann. Susan was a fond niece, cousin, aunt, and devoted friend to countless others.
Susan passionately valued love, kindness, and learning; she dedicated years of her life to helping children as a preschool teacher, where she imparted knowledge and joy to young children every day. Susan’s favorite role was mother to her two children who she loved deeply and unconditionally. But ultimately, her most prized role was that of being called Nana/Nani by her four beautiful grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them and watching them grow up.
To all those who knew her, she will be remembered most for her kindness and her true compassion for others. Susan blessed us by her presence, devotion, and contagious smile. One has never truly felt pure love until you have been loved by her. As the gracious heart at the center of her family, her memory will live on through the countless stories and memories shared by those who loved her.
For those wishing to honor Susan’s memory, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
The family invites all who knew and loved Susan to join them in honoring her memory with a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Celestine Church (St. Mother Theodore Guerin Parish) from 9:30 a.m. until Mass at 11:30 a.m. All services will conclude following Mass and the interment will be private.
