Des Plaines

Sarah Daniell Field, of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on December 23, 1937, Sarah lived a life defined by caring, service, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. Her warmth, steadiness, and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sarah was the devoted wife of the late Reverend James Field, and her family remained the center of her world. She was a loving mother to Elizabeth, Stephen (and his wife, Barbara), and Charles (and his wife, Karen), and a cherished grandmother to Katherine, Annalise, Elizabeth, and Kathryn. She was also a loyal friend whose kindness and grace touched many lives.

Born to Martin and Winifred Daniell, Sarah was one of four children. Her early years were spent in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, where her father worked for the American Sugar Refining Company. She later lived in Connecticut and then Michigan, places where she built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. She is survived by her siblings Martin (and his wife, Callie), Gordon (and his wife, Gayle), and Ellen (and her late husband, David), with whom she shared lifelong bonds.

Sarah built a distinguished career as a transcriptionist, most notably working alongside acclaimed soap opera writer Douglas Marland. Through her work, she contributed to some of daytime television’s most storied dramas, including General Hospital, the Guiding Light, As the World Turns, and The Doctors.

A woman of deep faith and community spirit, Sarah was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an active church member, serving faithfully on the Altar Guild. She volunteered at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, later offering home health care support, extending compassion to those in need. She also helped run the concession stand for St. Michael’s Church at Michigan State football games, sharing her strong sense of service and camaraderie.

Sarah was an avid sports fan, especially fond of March Madness and golf. She loved calling her children to discuss the latest game outcome, sharing excitement, analysis, and laughter. She delighted in time spent with her children and grandchildren—alpine sliding, playing cards and games, working on puzzles, enjoying arts and crafts, and knitting. She was fully present for every play, concert, and milestone, offering steady encouragement and unconditional love.

Her family treasures memories of summers spent in Franklin, New Hampshire; Sudbury, Vermont; and Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where time with the Daniell and Field extended families created some of life’s most cherished moments.

Sarah is survived by her loving family and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
