Samuel “Sam” Oliva, age 83, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories shared with family and friends.
Sam was the beloved son of the late Clementine and Benedict Oliva. He was the devoted husband of Pat (née Bahlenhorst) Oliva for 61 wonderful years. Their love story began as teenagers in high school and grew into a lifelong partnership built on friendship, loyalty, and deep devotion.
He was a loving and proud father to Tony (Joan) Oliva and Kerri (Bill) Adkins. Sam’s greatest joy was being “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren: Cassie Oliva, Sami Oliva, Gillian Adkins, Paul Oliva, Emma Moya, and Mattie Oliva, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Sam was also a dear uncle to Tom Oliva, Jill Moya, and Susan Oliva Metken, and a loving cousin to Roseann Jarvis, Carol Canivez, and many more extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his warmth and kindness.
Sam had an electric smile and a laugh to match. When Sam loved you, you always knew you had someone firmly in your corner. He spent his career as a dedicated truck driver and shared countless stories from his years on the road. Some of Tony and Kerri’s fondest memories were riding along with their dad, proudly serving as his “assistant drivers” for the day.
A loyal Chicago sports fan, Sam cheered passionately for the Bears and the White Sox. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures — fishing, spending time with his family, and enjoying a good plate of pasta surrounded by those he loved most.
Sam’s legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the lessons he taught, and the unwavering love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation for Sam will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 10:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish 7211 W. Talcott Ave. Chicago , IL 60631. Interment will follow at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago. Arrangements by Cumberland Chapels.
