Ryan Mckenzie

June 4, 1958 — September 29, 2021

Ryan R. McKenzie, 63, a loving family man with a generous heart, at rest on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Beloved husband of Claire for over 39 years, devoted and loving father of Kelsey, Keenan (Rossella), and Kamryn. Beloved son of Raymond and the late Carole. Fond brother of Raymond (Nan), Cathleen McKenzie, Colleen McKenzie (Mark Koons) , and Carrie (Don) Mock. Dear Son-in-Law of Maria and the late Modesto Monno. Fond nephew, cousin, uncle and great uncle to many.

Ryan graduated from Ridgewood High School in Norridge, University of Chicago (undergraduate) and Northwestern University (MBA). He began his career at American National Bank in the early 1980s and rose quickly through the ranks to leading a Division of the bank’s Commercial Lending Group for almost 20 years. Later joining the Pullman Bank, he served as the bank’s President, until the bank was sold. After his commercial banking days, Ryan joined one of his mentors in the commercial equipment leasing business for many years. During the last 20 years, Ryan was an Operating Partner and Chief Administrative Officer of Arbor Private Investment Company.

Ryan had many interests and extra-curricular activities including playing golf and being a longtime member of the Oak Park Country Club, coaching his children’s sports teams. He was an exercise fanatic (2 workouts per day), competitive snowboarder, technology wizard, and early adopter of cutting edge technology and gadgets.

Above all, Ryan was devoted and committed to his family and making them his first priority. His days centered around helping his wife and children thrive and encouraging them to be their best. Ryan was a man who could not be stopped. He served on various community and organization boards with pride.

Ryan collected classic, antique, and vintage cars. In the last few years, Ryan was blessed to be able to achieve his goal of building a classic car garage, CAV (Classic Antique and Vintage) Auto in Des Plaines. CAV has hosted car shows at the garage and has entered its beautiful cars in neighborhood and organization car shows to allow the community to enjoy the collection.

We lost Ryan after an 18 month ferocious battle with Glioblastoma. Ryan fought this horrible disease with all of his might, to the very end. In the typical Ryan style and in his quest to help others and to contribute to the community, Ryan has donated his brain to science and brain cancer research so the fight can continue with his help.

Ryan left a legacy of love that will carry on through the hearts of all those he touched.

Should friends desire, contributions to Northwestern Medicine Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute 675 N. St. Clair St. Floor 20, Chicago, Illinois 60611 would be appreciated.
