Roy P. Glash, age 99, passed away on October 7, 2026. Roy was born on January 5, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Paul and the late Victoria (nee Stube) Glash.
He was the beloved husband of his childhood sweetheart, Carol Lois (nee Gruhn) Glash, with whom he shared 74 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2025.
Roy was the loving father of Janis (Karl) Belz, James Glash, and Joyce (the late Richard G.) Busser. He was the cherished grandfather of Dr. Jennifer (Benjamin Redding) Busser and Richard J. Busser (fiancée Cristina Capetillo-Aleman) and proud great-grandfather of William Redding. Roy was preceded in death by his siblings, Beatrice (Robert) Tarkowski, Richard (Jeanette) Glash, and Robert Glash. He was also a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Roy proudly served his country as a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II. Some of his most memorable moments occurred when he was drafted and moved to Texas, and the time during which he served overseas in Japan as a Tech Sergeant 4 specialized in artillery mechanics.
Roy was a wonderful provider and made sure that his wife was able to devote her time at home to their three children. He was a master machinist in the tool and die industry at Harig Manufacturing for much of his professional career. In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing lawn mowers, snowblowers, and small engines for his family, friends, and neighbors. He could be found in his garage making wood projects or in his garden growing tomatoes.
Roy's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a proud and devoted family man who cherished every moment shared with those he loved. His home was always open and he made sure everyone knew they were always invited for a meal. His and Carol’s home was the place for all of the family gatherings and celebrations.
Roy leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a beautiful legacy of love and family. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a kind and caring man whose greatest accomplishment was the family he loved so dearly.
Visitation for Roy will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, Illinois. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
