Rosemarie Alongi, age 93, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, at her home after bravely battling cancer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Rosemarie graduated from Proviso Township High School in Maywood, Illinois. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and home, finding joy and purpose in the traditions and values she held dear.
Rosemarie was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith. She took great pride in preserving cherished Italian traditions—canning tomatoes, preparing homemade gravy and pastas, and baking beloved Italian cookies. She was an extraordinarily gifted cook and baker, and her meals were known to be more delicious than those of the finest restaurants.
Her legacy is one of remarkable strength and courage. As a breast cancer survivor and fighter, Rosemarie became an inspiration to other women facing the same diagnosis. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, nana, cousin, aunt, and friend—deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rosemarie is survived by her son, Dr. Robert (Nancy) Alongi; her grandchildren, Ashley (Tom) Jackson and Michael Alongi; and her great-grandchildren, Mason and Caleb Jackson. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage; and her parents, Pasquale Damato and Anna Marie Koval.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) https://www.bcrf.org/ would be appreciated.
Visitation for Rosemarie will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 5136 N. Nottingham Ave., Chicago, IL 60656. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
