Rita Bakula

Rita Bakula, 93; Born June 4, 1921, youngest of three children of Otto and Martha Schuenemann. Born in Chicago, she lived and worked at the family resort at Grass Lake, IL. Rita graduated from Grant Community High School in 1938 and then worked in Chicago and at the family resort during the war years until the mid-1950's. She married Walter Bakula in 1946. She started her career in banking working at the Fox Lake State Bank and in 1962 she joined Unity Savings and Loan in Norridge, IL, becoming vice-president in 1968. After surviving many mergers throughout the 1980's and 1990's, Rita became involved in charitable organizations like United Way and Norridge Cares and ultimately retired in 1997 from Bank of America. She is survived by her son Daniel Bakula and was preceded in death by Walter. Visitation will be Wednesday April 22nd from 3 - 9 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by a procession to Cole Cemetery in Spring Grove, IL for interment.
