Dr. Richard “Rick” Grubek, D.D.S, P.C. passed away unexpectedly June 10 at his home in Park Ridge, Illinois.
Rick was the cherished son of the late Walter and Estelle Grubek (nee Witek) and grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago. He was a proud graduate of Lane Tech High School in Chicago, continued his education at Wright Jr. College, Loyola University, and then the University of Illinois Dental School. After graduation, Rick practiced in various Chicago and suburban locations before establishing his North Harlem Ave practice in his old neighborhood where he practiced for nearly 40 years.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife Julie and cherished and adored son Zachary “Zach” Grubek, who was the greatest joy of his life. He is also survived by his dearest sister Marilyn and treasured brother-in-law Bill Mankus; prized brother-in-law Jeff Reinehr; loving mother-in-law Jean Reinehr; fond nephew David Grubek and many cousins whom he dearly loved; his dedicated staff; and many close friends who will cherish his memory and good nature.
Rick was preceded in death by his loving parents, and dearest brother Allan, who welcomed him into eternal rest along with his faithful companions Sheeba and Duke.
Throughout his life, Rick dedicated himself to his family, friends, and community. Rick will be remembered for his good nature, patriotism, sense of humor, strength of character, and the positive impact he had on the lives of those who knew him. His skilled care and kindness brought comfort to his many patients. Rick was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golfing, hockey, coaching, skiing, and boating. Some of his happiest times were spent boating on the water with his family and friends. Rick was a talented painter. He was an accomplished accordion player and earned several prestigious awards. Yet among all his achievements, the honor he treasured most was becoming a father to Zach.
