Richard C. Anderson

Apr 20, 1935 — Oct 2, 2026

Richard Clifford Anderson, 91, of Schiller Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on October 2, 2026.

Richard “Dickie” Anderson, born on April 20, 1935, in Chicago, grew up in the Portage Park neighborhood. He attended St. George High School and later married the love of his life Mae on May 4, 1957, at St. Robert Bellarmine. They resided on Chicago’s Northwest side before finally purchasing their home in Schiller Park in 1961, where they raised four children. After thirty-five years of employment at Illinois Bell Telephone/Ameritech, Dickie retired early (which was quite the shock to his marriage!). Consequently, he began working with other phone company retirees at OSP, installing phone systems.

Dickie proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was actively involved in his community, serving as a trustee under Anna Montana and President of the Schiller Park Recreation board for 25 years. In addition, he served on the finance committee at St. Beatrice. After retiring for a second time, Dickie and Mae spent the winters at their home in Arizona. They cherished their time there, making many dear friends. Dickie had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing with his buddies, affectionately known as “telephone trash.”

Dickie was a master of fixing anything. He cheerfully helped us and many others over the years with various projects, including installing phone lines in every room when landlines were all the rage. He had a passion for music, particularly classic country and music from the 1950s. Dickie always enjoyed a good Manhattan with cherry juice. His motto was “one and done,” which often turned into two or three and done.

We are eternally grateful to our dad’s caregiver, Karina, and our sister Colleen for their gentle care and for ensuring his comfort during his final days.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mae. He is survived by his children, Maureen (Gary) Marlin, Colleen Broeski, Dan and the late Michael; grandpa of Katie, Christopher, Caley (David) Titus, Casey, Jacob, Quinn, Callum and the late Billy; great grandpa of Chandler, Kaidynn, Maddison, Brandon, Isabella, Tylee and Lilah; brother of Robert Anderson and Kathy Rodgers, and the late Leroy Anderson, and his canine companion Murphy.
