Phyllis Vazzano (Cassata) age 88, passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2025 with her family at her side. Phyllis was the beloved wife of Salvatore "Sam" Vazzano for 64 wonderful years; loving mother of Rose (August) Vivirito and Sarah (David) Zirin; dear daughter of the late Rosaria (Polizzano) and the late Giuseppe Cassata; cherished grandmother of Stephanie (Edward) Burek, Jeremy (Julia) Zirin, Cosmo, Salvatore and AnnaMarie Vivirito; great grandmother of Parker, Mila and Simon; dearest sister of Salvatore (Giuseppina), Frank (Petrina) and Barbara Cassata, Sarah (Charles) Parcell and Anthony Cassata, and she was a fond aunt of Sarah (Earl) Preston, Joseph (Marylynn) Cassata, Jeff (Denise) Parcell and many great nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was born in Ventimiglia, Sicily. She came to the United States at the age of 19 with her father, brother Frank and sister Barbara to find jobs and create a better life for their family. Shortly after, her mother and the rest of her siblings joined her. She returned to Italy five years later to marry the love of her life, Salvatore. They both returned to the United States and started their life together. Everything she did was for her family. She loved her daughters and it brought her joy to watch them grow up and have families of their own. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Visitation Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral Services begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home, and then proceed to St. Emily Church in Mt. Prospect for Mass at 12:00 noon.
