Phyllis Piazza

Family, Food, and Fun – these are the things that defined Phyllis Piazza’s life.

Born June 16th, 1929 to Frank and Theresa Paulette, she grew up in Austin on the West side of Chicago with her four siblings. While attending Austin High School, she met Joseph Piazza, who she would later marry in 1949. Together they raised their four daughters, initially in Cary, IL, and later moved to Park Ridge where they lived for the next 65 years. Their house on Cumberland Avenue became the central hub where Phyllis would host many family gatherings and holiday parties. She lived for a good time, and was generous about spending it with other people–always keeping her home as a place where you could stop by at any time, laugh a lot, discuss current events, and never leave without being asked, “You want somethin’ to eat?” Her favorite things included being with her family, watching Cubs and Bears games, playing cards, visiting with her friends and neighbors, and tuning into her various schedule of shows like Judge Judy and 60 Minutes.

She passed away on Wednesday, November 5th at the age of ninety-six, surrounded by family. She will be remembered for her spunky personality, her sense of humor, and her love for her husband, Joe. Phyllis is survived by her siblings, Annette Paul (Charles), Marlene DiBrito (Dean), and Tony Paulette, her daughters Terese McGrath (James), Paulette Ryg (Gary), Angela Brittsan (Brian), and Mary Toyama (Robert). She was blessed by over forty grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Always up for an adventure, she lived a fruitful life and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday, November 8th from 10:00 A.M. until time of Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church (Cumberland & Granville Ave.), Park Ridge. The burial will take place at the All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
