Paul F. Wolek

Nov 19, 1942 — Aug 29, 2026

Paul Frank Pozdol, 83, died Aug. 29, 2026. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Andrew Wolek and Mary (Pozdol) Wolek in 1942. Paul attended Holy Innocents Grammar School. Afterwards, he graduated from Holy Trinity High School and later earned a degree in accounting from DePaul University.

He served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Paul worked in the accounting department of Northern Trust Bank in downtown Chicago for many years. He retired early and remained single, living with his immediate family. He never owned or drove a car, relying on public transportation.

Paul enjoyed family gatherings, discovering new restaurants, watching and betting on the ponies, rooting for all the Chicago sports teams, attending Catholic services, and staying in touch with family and friends. A regular listener of Relevant Radio, Paul had a strong and infectious faith that he practiced daily and discussed with others.

He traveled extensively and regularly to race tracks across the county from Saratoga to Santa Anita. He posted in person or phoned in his bets; he did not gamble online. He took a trip to Poland about 15 years ago and hired a man as both his driver and guide.

Paul had a calming presence and wonderful outlook despite his yearslong battle with multiple myeloma. He had a dry sense of humor and showed compassion toward family members who were facing difficulties of any kind. Many friends, family members, and charities knew of and appreciated his generosity and gift giving.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Barbara.

He leaves behind to celebrate his life cousins, Michael Pozdol, Deborah Skozek, Christine Sobczyk, and Mark Sobczyk; as well as other family members and friends.

Visitation for Paul will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, Il.
