Paul Tscherwenka, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on November 12, 1934, in Yugoslavia, Paul immigrated to the United States in 1959, where he built a life centered on hard work, family, and the traditions he carried from his homeland.
Paul was a skilled carpenter by trade and took great pride in his craftsmanship. Known for his constant smile and warm personality, he had a way of making those around him feel welcome and appreciated. He remained deeply proud of his German heritage and loved sharing his culture, stories, and traditions with family and friends.
Paul enjoyed dancing, traveling, and keeping up with his favorite sports, always embracing life with enthusiasm and a joyful spirit. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Opa.”
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marianne Tscherwenka; his parents, Elizabeth Cervenka and Paul Cervenka; and his brother, Michael Cherwenka.
Paul is survived by his loving children, Erich (Linda) Tscherwenka and Elaine Tscherwenka. He was a proud grandfather to Ellen, Kristin, and Stacy, and a cherished great-grandfather to Blake, Austin, Nathan, Owen, Eleanor, Molly, and Scarlett. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, his strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply.
Visitation for Paul will take place on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, Illinois. Paul's funeral will take place on Tuesday, beginning at the funeral home at 10:00 am and then proceed to Queen of Peace Parish at St. Eugene Church for 11:00 am Mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois.
