Patricia Lewandowski

October 2, 1932 — March 24, 2022

Patricia Ann Lewandowski (nee Haens), age 89, succumbed to the long-term debilitation of Alzheimer’s disease on March 24, 2022. Her life-long healthy habits sustained her body far beyond the point that her mind had failed her. She now rests in peace.

Pat was born in Chicago on October 2, 1932 toward the end of the Great Depression, but as an adorable little girl with the prettiest dresses, and ringlets and bows in her hair, her life was rich in love. Her father, Robert Haens, a 1st generation German-American, was a very doting man who loved taking Pat to Saturday movies. Her mother, Rachel Haens (nee Newman), was raised in the south with all the decorum that region is known for, but developed a quick wit and a knack for whipping up chocolate layer cakes on a whim any given Sunday. You would never have known that Pat was an only child, since she was surrounded by cousins and extended family who she loved dearly.

Then along came Raymond Lewandowski, a good looking fellow who caught her eye at the roller rink and swept her off her feet. They married before Ray left for overseas service in the Korean War. Pat’s life shifted from being a solo female child, to being a devoted wife and the mother of two sets of twin boys. Life was full of fun and faith and love. Pat’s kindness and joy in life continued to assure she was wrapped in the love of the Newman, Haens and Lewandowski families and scores of friends throughout her life.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and by numerous beloved relatives, perhaps most notably her cousin Bill Meccia and her cousin, but sister-at-heart Betty Herbst.

Pat is survived by her sons who brought girls (wives) into the family circle: Kurt (Diane), Keith (Karen), Robert (Jody) and Richard (Shannon); by her grandchildren who brought untold joy and playfulness: Ryan, Taylor, Rachel (Ryan) Smith, McKinley, Grant, Victoria and Michael Lewandowski and Noah Van Winkle; as well as by great grandchildren Patrick and Caitlin Smith – who will know her through her love sent from heaven above.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 4, 2022 beginning at 9:30 a.m. and continuing until the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, (FRIEL FUNERAL DIRECTORS) 8300 Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL.
