I can’t put words together any more, I am just numb.
People often asked how/where did we meet? Neither one of us could put a specific time/place to it but we did know it was some club on Taylor Street. He was so handsome and those eyelashes would make any girl jealous.
Sitting in his yard and listening to his music made him happiest. He was not a man of flashy clothes or jewelry but always looked like a million bucks.
He spoiled me and his kids and enjoyed seeing us smile when he got us whatever we wanted.
How can I lose the love of my life and my son within 3 weeks of each other?
Little did anyone know that Pat’s body was hiding all his pain and then just hit us like the world was falling in on us. I truly believe his body was protecting him from the pain so that he could be here for Tony, and once he knew Tony was at peace he let go.
That is how Pat was – always there for everyone, helping in any way he could – and never more so than with Tony. They were best buds – sharing their love of listening to Andrea Bocelli, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Jimmy Roselli. Sports – not so much! Neither one of them.
Our nightly routine would have the three of us watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and trying to be the first to shout out the answers. I always said that was our bonding time.
Pat loved watching old cowboy movies and re-runs of Law and Order – or mostly falling asleep in his recliner while pretending to watch.
And, of course Gina and ‘Dad’ were great friends to each other, with so many friends in common. He would meet her and her friends at Angel’s for breakfast at 3 am on her way home from clubbing. He always ate whatever she cooked/baked for him… even if it tasted nasty. He picked out her clothes (even mini-skirts and bikini’s). He’d pretend he was mean in front of new friends or boyfriends and then they’d laugh about it later.
He was also a proud ‘Papa’ to his granddaughters Sami and Casi. He looked forward to their visits and phone calls --- and slipping them a few bucks and telling them to not tell ‘Grami’ – but of course they did!
He introduced both of his kids to politics at a young age. He had Gina out ringing doorbells starting around the age of 9 and Tony worked with him on campaigns from Governor to President of the United States.
He was a man of many ‘talents’ from bartending, to driving a cab, truck driver, a barber by trade, working in the Secretary of State’s Office, and of course a police officer. Whatever occupation he was pursuing he was all in and all his co-workers knew he had their back. He valued loyalty above all else and if you were his friend you could count on him day or night – which many did – and even some of you reading this – you know who you are…
Reading the heartfelt comments from Pat’s friends, co-workers and our family is helping to ease our sorrow knowing how much he was loved and will be missed.
Rest easy Pat, your work here on earth is done – Till we meet again…Always and Forever
