Nicoletta Frangias (Karamitsos), age 92, from Evangelismos, Messinias, Greece, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 6, 2026. Nicoletta was the beloved wife of the late Nick; loving mother of John (Kristine Underwood), Garrifalia, Angela and Christos Frangias; dear daughter of the late Aggeliki and the late Christos Karamitsos; cherished yiayia of Elias (Jennifer) Diamantis and Fotiny (Patrick) Smith; dearest sister of Bill (Betty) and Demitrios (Joanna) Karamitsos, Christina (Demitrios) Psicharis and the late Costa "Gus" (the late Christoula) and the late Peter (Helen) Karamitsos, the late Helen (the late Nick) Balafoutis, the late Voula (Nick) Koulouris, the late Eva (Vlasios) Gergis and the late Ilias (the late Eleni) Karamitsos, and sister in-law of Anastasia (the late George) and the late Anastasios (the late Magdelina) and the late Demitrios (the late Maria) Frangias and the late Anthia (the late Nick) Kiritsis, and she was a fond aunt of many.
Nicoletta lived life to the fullest with a quick wit, a sparkle in her eye, and a fiery spirit that drew people to her everywhere she went. With her charismatic nature, her warm heart was revealed in quiet acts of grace and moments when she thought no one was watching. Her faith was central to how she lived, demonstrated through her tireless dedication to her church community—she truly served God by serving others.
Nicoletta’s family was her proudest achievement and greatest joy. She shared a lifetime of deep love and devotion with her late husband, Nicholas, and she cherished her children and grandchildren. Her unconditional love, wisdom, and a fierce loyalty made everyone in her circle feel safe and protected leaving an undeniable mark on the hearts of all who were blessed to have known her.
Visitation Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral Friday, friends and family will gather at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church 733 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago for a Greek Orthodox Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated. For more information call (708)456-8300.
