Cosimo Patruno was born on May 16, 1942, in the seaside town of Mola di Bari, Italy to Angelo Luigi and Angela. The second youngest of seven siblings, Cosimo came of age during an era of reconstruction following the Second World War and began work at a young age. He served in the Italian Merchant Marines as an engineer in a shipping vessel, traveling across the Mediterranean Sea and later worked as a stainless-steel fabricator in his town. He married his wife, Antonia, on March 21, 1962 and had three children, Angela, Lucrezia, and Luigi, whom he loved immensely. In 1972, he, his wife Antonia, and their three children immigrated to the United States with few personal possessions and unknown employment opportunities. In Chicago, Cosimo found employment at Avenue Metal Manufacturing, where he worked passionately and happily for nearly forty years, always delighted to talk about the products he crafted with such ingenuity and precision. Cosimo was a very loving and caring person. He enjoyed the camaraderie of friends. He was a man who gave everything for his family and loved nothing more than to spend time with the ones he loved. Cosimo was blessed with a remarkable sense of humor and found joy in the playful amusement of his three grandchildren, Cristina, Joey, and Sofia and great granddaughter Rosa. He was a man who embodied the virtues of personal responsibility, independent thought, conveying compassion, and maintaining strength in the most challenging of times. For all the trials he faced in his youth, Cosimo persevered and was determined to succeed for his family. He was a kind hearted person and a man of integrity. Cosimo’s family gave him incredible joy right up until the end.
