Mitch Hodyl, age 81, passed away on February 15, 2026, in St. Charles, Illinois. Mitch was born on January 21, 1945, in Poland to the late Jan Hodyl and the late Filomena (née Zielonka) Hodyl. He later made his home in Schiller Park.
Mitch is survived by his loving wife, Lucyna (née Tabor), with whom he shared nearly 59 wonderful years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Miroslaw Hodyl, Richard (Ann) Hodyl, and the late Jerry (Kamila) Hodyl. Mitch was the cherished grandfather of Alex, Tim, Josh, Charlie, Jessica, and Sam, and he adored spending time with his six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and is survived by four siblings.
Mitch spent most of his career working as a skilled tool and die maker. Outside of work, he found great joy in gardening, caring for plants and flowers, wood carving, beekeeping and spending weekends in Galena. A lover of the outdoors, he passed along his passion for fishing and gardening to his family—gifts that will be treasured for generations.
After bravely beating two different types of cancer over the past 13 years, his family had hoped he might win one more battle against pancreatic cancer. Though his fight came to an end, Mitch’s strength, humor, and enduring spirit will never be forgotten. Known for his entertaining jokes, he was a genuinely good man who brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
