Michael Purpura

November 8, 1928 — October 11, 2021

Michael Ross Purpura passed away in the early morning hours of October 11, 2021 in his apartment at Brookdale Independent Senior Living in Hoffman Estates.

Michael is survived by 5 of his 6 children: Gail Mroz, Lynn Nyenhuis, Nancy Kerr, Donna Purpura and Keith Purpura. 8 Grandchildren: Heather Bialas, Jenifer Dehlin, Derek Nyenhuis, Deana Nyenhuis, Shana Doering, Laurel Nyenhuis, Daniella Kerr and Elizabeth Kerr. 5 Great Grandchildren: Sam and Stella Dehlin and Evelyn, Luke and Eli Doering. One surviving brother, Ross Purpura and many nieces and nephews.

Michael was known by all to be a great husband, father and friend to many! He has gone to Heaven to meet his predeceased wife (married 04/30/1949): Bonadel Ann Purpura (passed on March 19, 2020), Son: Craig Purpura (passed October 24, 2012) and his parents: Joseph and Amanda Purpura, his siblings: Joseph Purpura, Frederick Purpura and Margaret Schull.

Michael was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 8, 1928. He graduated from Lane Tech High School…After years at Colonial Colonite in plastic parts manufacturing, Michael started his own business, MRP in plastic fabrication. He was a wiz at math and programing the machines to make parts of all sizes. Michael had many hobbies: owner and pilot of 2 Cessna airplanes, building and flying RC model airplanes with flying club, boating, snowmobile and train hobbyist.

He was more than a pilot, he was the wind beneath our wings. Michael was truly the Patriarch of the family. He had a fantastic sense of humor and never said an unkind word of (or to) anyone. He could have had a great career as a comedian…he had a joke for all occasions.

You can shed tears that he is gone, or you smile because he has lived. He has lived wisely...and has set a great example of bravery and courage. He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.

Funeral Service is private family only at Cumberland Chapels followed by St .Joseph Cemetery on Saturday, October 16, 2021. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Little City Foundation https://littlecity.org/donate/.
