Mary K. Shoup

Mary K. Shoup, 91 went home to heaven on August 22, 2026. She is survived by her son, Steven of Algonquin, IL, her granddaughter Shannon and great grandson Devlin of Lake Zurich, IL. Mary is survived by her sisters, Christine Ryan (the late Lawrence) and Janet Burton (Robert) and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Marjorie Whiteleather (the late David), her parents Nicholas and Lillian Kuhns, brothers Charles Kuhns (the late Marjorie), John Kuhns (Linda), and her sister Gloria Dubin (the late Charles).

Mary was a lifelong resident of Elmwood Park, for the majority of her life before she moved into her condo in River Grove. A graduate of Steinmetz High School, in 1954 she began a family that grew with the birth of her son Steven, followed by the birth of her daughter Susan. In 1970 she began a long career of recordkeeping in the medical field eventually becoming the office manager for a group of doctors. That practice became part of Gottlieb Hospital and after she retired, she continued to “work” as a volunteer in the Gottlieb Hospital surgical waiting room and she retired completely in 2020.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W Lawrence Ave, Norridge. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery. Info: 708-456-8300
