Mary Louise Schnitzius (nee Voegtle) died on April 1, 2017 at Lutheran General Hospital due to chronic kidney failure and complications from dementia. Mary graduated from Schurz High School as class valedictorian and worked as a manager at Sears Roebuck. Mary “Lou” and her late husband George were married in St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Chicago on June 23, 1951 and were blessed with over 65 years of life together in Rogers Park, Park Ridge and Beach Park, Illinois before their final months together at Generations Nursing Home in Des Plaines. Mary had a great sense of humor and treasured everyone equally. She loved the family home on Harrison Street in Park Ridge and was proud of her beautiful flower gardens and myrtle beds. She enjoyed playing scrabble and pinochle and was an avid reader of books and newspaper current events. She was an active parishioner at Mary Seat of Wisdom (Park Ridge) and St. Patrick Church (Beach Park). Mary loved to go to the “farm” in Iola, Wisconsin and worked hard on her flower beds and looked forward to the family reunion there every September. As an only child she was very dedicated to her mother, Mary Elizabeth Voegtle, who lived close by in Northwest Chicago. She was proud of her mother’s German-immigrant heritage, and instilled this pride in all of her family. She loved to cut out coupons to get a deal on everything. She was a dedicated homemaker and loved all of her grandchildren and was intensely interested in all they did and their accomplishments. In her later years, she trained and was certified to provide counseling and support for assisting aging adults and their families. Mary Louise is survived by her four children Michael, Thomas, Mary Margaret and Ann Marie and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, infant son John, and her parents Mary and Otto Voegtle.
