Mary Ann Ida Waters, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026. Born on September 27, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, Mary Ann was the beloved daughter of the late Peter and Anne Nero. She was a longtime resident of Harwood Heights and devoted her life to her family, faith, and the people she loved.
Mary Ann was the cherished wife of the late Carlos Waters, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving family that became the center of their lives and their greatest source of pride and joy.
She is survived by her loving sons, Steve (Jill) Waters and Robert (Sandy) Waters. Mary Ann was a devoted grandmother to Tracy (Brad), Alexis (Brandon), Nick (Brittany), Candace, and Evan, and a beloved extended grandmother to Tammy (Eric). She was also a proud and adoring great-grandmother to Hayden, Morgan, Jayne, Emelia, Juniper, Malcolm, Phoebe, Nova and Evie. and an extended great-grandmother to Glenn, Zach, Dean, and Hunter.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Jason Waters. The bond they shared was truly special, and it brings comfort to know they are now reunited in eternal peace. She was also preceded in death by her dear brothers, Frederick, Eugene, and Frank Nero. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Throughout her career, Mary Ann worked at Briganti's Banquets and later as an insurance broker at O'Hare Airport. She was known for her strong work ethic, warm personality, and caring nature. Above all else, Mary Ann treasured her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immeasurable happiness to her life, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them and celebrating their accomplishments.
Mary Ann will be remembered for her kindness, devotion, generosity, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone around her. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished so deeply and the countless memories they will carry in their hearts forever.
Visitation for Mary Ann will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, Illinois. The funeral procession will then proceed to St. Monica Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Entombment will follow at the Indoor Mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, Mary Ann's love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain a lasting gift to all who were blessed to know her.
