Mark Czworniak

June 28, 1957 — May 15, 2019

Dearest friends, We are heartbroken to say that Dad passed away early this evening. Collectively, we have lost a magnificent man. No words would be sufficient to honor him here, or to thank you enough for your love and prayers. We can say that Dad passed peacefully this evening surrounded and held by those who love him most. In my mind, I can see dad’s face if he would have woken up and realized the outpouring of love that surrounded his family in these last two and a half weeks. He would have cried in humble thanks. We have already shed a thousand tears for dad and we will continue to do so for quite some time. But, he deserves every single one of those tears because of the love and life he brought to all of us. Please continue to pray for him and for us. We take comfort in your love and support as well as the promise God has given us:“The day will come when He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Rev 21:4———————........The Ballad of Det. Mark Czworniak....... My friend Mark Czworniak beat cancer, two heart attacks, murderers and gangsters and “the brass” at Chicago PD. He had a third heart attack two weeks ago and fought like a Polish Warrior but he lost his battle today. It was a true gift to be his friend…and if you didn’t get the chance to know him you missed out. He was a great husband, phenomenal father of two outstanding girls (one daughter is a doctor, one daughter is a cop) and the all-time best of friends. Mark worked in the Chicago Homicide Unit (North Side) and investigated and solved some fascinating murder cases. The families of those victims were lucky to have him on the case….he cared. Mark was part of the Practical Homicide Investigations team led by our Godfather, Lt. Commander Vernon Geberth (NYPD). Some of Mark’s cases and photographs are featured in the Commander’s book (Practical Homicide Investigation), the Bible of homicide investigations. After retiring from the CPD, he worked for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A couple weeks ago, just before he got sick, he helped solve a child murder case on behalf of the NCMEC…he continued to care. I will miss him “f-ing” with me every day….I will miss “f-ing” with him every day and most of all I will miss his unwavering loyalty, friendship and laughter. God Bless Detective Mark Czworniak and his girls Beth, Ashley and Elle.Mark J. Czworniak, 61, Retired Chicago Police Detective, Consultant with National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, passed away May 15, 2019. Beloved husband of Elizabeth for 34 years.
