Marilynne Carlson

Mrs. Marilynne Mattick Carlson began her spiritual life at St. Beatrice Church in 1942. She was the beloved daughter Fred and Gladys Mattick. Her total education was from the school sisters of St. Francis. In 1964 she graduated from Alverno with a science degree in education and began her teaching career in Bensenville, Illinois. In 1967 she married her husband Kenneth Carlson of Marathon, Iowa. In 1971 she went on a semi permanent leave due to the birth of her children. In 1984 she returned to teaching full time at St. Williams School in Chicago. She’s survived by her son David, her daughter Julianne and son in law, Neven Budimir, her granddaughter Calista, and her grandson Logan. She is survived by her brother and sister in law, Janice and Carroll Harless, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and by many cousins and friends. She had a special fondness for the teaching of social studies and reading. Marilynne was not technologically gifted and wanted her students to learn to love a book in the hand. It is her wish that her love of reading will continue with her students. She also has a special fondness for the saints, and has read much about them. Her two favorites are St. Francis of Asisi, and St. Teresa The Little Flower. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 10, 2023, at the age of 81.

Visitation Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home, and will then proceed to St. Beatrice Church (Holy Virgin Martyrs Parish) for Mass at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Mt.
