Maria Scimeca

Maria Pia Scimeca, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026.

Maria was born on December 10, 1934, in Altavilla Milicia, a town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo in the Sicilian region of Italy. In 1966, she immigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, Illinois, and later making her home in Norridge, Illinois.

Maria was the beloved wife of the late Rosario Scimeca, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. She was the loving and devoted mother of Angelo (Araceli) Scimeca, John Scimeca, Frank (Kathy) Scimeca, and Rosalia (Albert) Perez. She was the cherished grandmother of Elise, Christina, Ross, Maria, Kaitlyn, McKenzie, Brandy, Benjamin, Adriana, and Mario, and the proud great-grandmother of Lexa, Kaylee, Adalina, Paisley, Rome, and Rosalia.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Anna and Josephine Romano.

A talented seamstress and wonderful cook, Maria took great pride in caring for her family. She expressed her love through her homemade meals, thoughtful acts of kindness, and the beautiful items she created through her sewing. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered and treasured by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Maria will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, Illinois.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home before proceeding to St. Celestine Catholic Church at St. Mother Guerin Parish in Elmwood Park for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass.

Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in the Indoor Mausoleum.

Though her gentle presence will be deeply missed, Maria's legacy lives on through the family she loved so dearly. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to have known her.
