Maria Heska

Maria Heska nee Gawin, age 90. Beloved wife of the late Kazimierz Heski; loving mother of Joanna (Henryk) Gadomski, Marta (Ryszard) Koczwara, and Krzysztof (Malgorzata) Heski; beloved daughter of the late Jozef and Zofia Gawin nee Syslo; loving grandmother of Magdalena (Filip) Kruszynski, Martyna (Patrick) Szyller, Paulina Gadomski, Julita Gadomski, Anna Gadomski, Konrad (Monika) Koczwara, Kamil Koczwara, and Daniel Heski; great grandmother of Antoni, Zofia, Karol, Stella, Oskar, Pola, Adam, and Victoria; dear sister of Adam (Zofia) Gawin, Anna (the late Jan) Frankowska, the late Zofia (Adam) Smola, and the late Eugenia (Stanislaw) Janus.

Our beloved mother Maria devoted her life to her family. She worked tirelessly for her children and grandchildren, always making time for the people she loved. Sociable, thoughtful, and generous, she was ready to help anyone in need and never forgot those dear to her.

She loved her homeland, Poland, and missed it deeply. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she held a special devotion to Saint Padre Pio and Saint John Paul II. She loved God, loved people, and found purpose in her work helping older adults in care homes.

At home, she delighted in cooking good food and sharing music, dancing, and art. Her wonderful sense of humor brought warmth and laughter to those around her.

She often reminded us: “Whoever walks with God, God walks with them.” We will carry her words—and her love, kindness, and faith—in our hearts always.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave Norridge, IL 60706. Funeral Services begin on Monday at the funeral home at 10:00 am and will proceed to St. Monica Catholic Church for Mass at 11:00. Burial will follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery.
