Luigi 'Gino' DiRe, 90, of Chicago, passed away February 5, 2017, at Rainbow Hospice Ark in Chicago. Gino was born in Italy and came to Chicago after World War II, where he married and raised a family, along with several other of his siblings from Italy and their families. A hard worker his whole life, he retired from the City of Chicago. Gino loved his family, friends, the outdoors, hunting, bocce ball, and gardening. He was especially proud of his tomatoes. He was extremely resourceful and made numerous hand-built items, including beautiful handmade baskets.Gino was preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo DiRe and Anna (Mazzuti) DiRe; his stepmother Concetta (D'Andrea) DiRe, his devoted wife Vera DiRe, his brother, Edmondo (Flavia) DiRe. Survivors include his sons Michael (Mary Jo) DiRe and John DiRe, his loving grandchildren William and Katherine DiRe, his brother Dominick (Antonietta) DiRe, his sister Lina (late Ezio) Cascella, two sisters in Italy, Antonietta (late Mario) D'Acci and Anna (late Pippo) Tomaselli and his devouted caregiver of 10 years, Igor Kulyk. He was a fond uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.Visitation Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and will proceed to All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. Rive Road for the Committal service.
