Loretta T. Davis, age 101, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. Born on December 19, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, Loretta was a lifelong Chicagoan whose vibrant spirit and love of life left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
One of nine children, Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved parents and many of her siblings. She is survived by her dear friend, Christine Malek; Michael Davis of Tucson, Arizona; and many cherished nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth, strength, and independence.

Loretta lived a remarkable and spirited life. A proud Chicago girl, she pursued her passion for athletics and made her mark in women’s professional baseball. After a season in the All-American League, she joined the Queens in 1945, where she became known as one of the league’s finest left fielders. Batting and throwing right-handed, Loretta was admired for her skill, determination, and love of the game. Even while facing a knee injury that sidelined her for part of a season, she recorded 43 runs batted in, hit 6 home runs, and maintained a .250 batting average, along with an impressive .966 fielding percentage. Those who knew her believed that with full health, she would have continued to be one of the league’s most formidable hitters.
Beyond baseball, Loretta was an avid and talented bowler, proudly maintaining a strong average in a sanctioned league. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams and athletes, with a particular love for football, basketball, and Golfing.
Loretta will be remembered for her resilience, her athleticism, and her enduring love for sports and community. Her long life was a testament to perseverance, passion, and strength.
Visitation for Loretta will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, Illinois. Funeral services will be officiated by Fr. Richard Yanos. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, Illinois.
Loretta’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
