ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Village of Schiller Park
Throughout his life, Leroy was a pillar of Schiller Park— a dedicated public servant who has always put the needs of his community before self.
As a member of the Village administration for nearly half a century, he has made an indelible mark on his community, serving in varied roles and working on numerous special projects. He first began working for the Village in 1968 when he joined the Zoning Board of Appeals. He served as Village Trustee from 1981–1999, working on numerous committees, including Fire and Emergency Service, Cable (Franchising) Committee, Airport Ecology, Ordinances, Public Property, Building, Plats, Space Needs, Flood Control/Crystal Creek, Planning and Zoning. He was Fire and Police Commissioner from 2006-2017. He also served as interim Mayor.
Whenever opportunities arose to be involved in special projects to improve the quality of life and contribute to making Schiller Park the vibrant community it is today, my father was more than willing to take on the task. To that end he worked on many vital projects, including Taste of Schiller Park, Clocktower Park, the Village Hall remodeling project, and stop light review and installation. From 1999–2006, he served as the Mayoral Advisor on Airport Issues (Suburban O'Hare Commission Representative).
In addition to his decades of service to the Village, Leroy spent countless hours doing volunteer work for and in the community he loves. He was also a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis Club and Moose Club. He was the founding member and Chairman of the Schiller Park American Cancer Society.
Saint Beatrice Parish & School
As a man of strong Catholic faith, Leroy belonged to St. Beatrice Parish, and was a member of the Ave Maria Council of the Knights of Columbus since the 1960s, third degree. He has also served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, usher, CCD Catechist, Teen Group Coordinator, and choir member, and was the Director of CCD from 1968–1973. He was a member of the St. Beatrice School Board from 1972–1978, serving as its President from 1974–1978. He also served on its Advisory Board from 1978–1982 and as Chairman from 1980–1982. In 2009, he joined the local Society of St. Vincent DePaul and was active in their charitable efforts such as collecting and delivering food to the poor through 2019. His final assignment was delivering turkeys to needy families at Thanksgiving.
