Leonard P. "Len" Zaleski, age 97, who retired as Chief of Detectives with the Chicago Police Department after 34 years of faithful service, and was also a U.S. Army Veteran of both WWII and the Korean war, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025. Len was the beloved husband of Mary Patricia "Pat" (nee Geary) for 64 wonderful years; loving father of Mary P., Carol Anne "Carrie", Michael J. (Elane) and the late Leonard P. Zaleski, Jr.; dear son of the late Marie (nee Golembiewski) and the late Joseph Zaleski; cherished grandfather of Hannah, Jenna and Leonard P. "Lenny" Zaleski III. Len was preceeded in death by 2 siblings, he was a close brother in law to the late John and Jim Geary, and he was a fond uncle of many.
In addition to the U.S. Army, Len was also a member of the Merchant Marines. In lieu of flowers, donations to Advocate Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
Visitation Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. We will then proceed to St. Monica Church in Chicago for Mass at 12:00 p.m. The interment will follow at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles. For more information call (708)456-8300.
