Celebration of the Life of Ladislao “Leo” Rodriguez

On February 19, 2026, our beloved Brother, Uncle, Great-uncle, Cousin, and Friend, Ladislao “Leo” Rodriguez, entered into eternal life, embraced in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While our hearts are heavy, we find deep comfort in knowing that Leo is now in His loving embrace. Today, we celebrate a life that was vibrant, joyful, and deeply devoted to others.

Leo was truly full of life. He carried a joy that lit up every room and lived with a rare and beautiful gift; he embraced the present moment. In a world that often rushes by, Leo slowed it down. He laughed freely, loved deeply, loved to dance salsa, enjoyed traveling, and constantly reminded us of what truly matters: connection, kindness, family, and living fully.

He was a devoted son to Ladislao and Generosa (Carmen) Rodriguez; a cherished brother to Maria del Carmen, Jose Maria, Betty, David, Judith, Angel Luis (Johnny), and Jose Manuel Rodriguez; and a proud uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also a loyal and treasured friend to so many, including friendships that spanned more than 50 years.

Leo’s life work reflected his heart. In his 20s and 30s, he worked at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles before returning to Chicago to be close to family and see his young nieces and nephews grow up. He stayed in Chicago for several years. He later lived in New York and New Jersey, dedicating himself to the mental health field, providing care, dignity, and advocacy to many, including inmates at Rikers Island. Throughout his career, Leo was deeply committed to the well-being of others. He stood up for people, mentored young men, volunteered in his community, and worked as a caseworker serving those in need. Caring for others was not just what he did; it was who he was.

Anyone who met Leo experienced a kindness so sweet and sincere that it left a lasting mark. He was fun, funny, charming, quick-witted, and genuinely loved by all. In his later years, our family lovingly ensured that he was always safe, cared for, and surrounded by warmth and compassion. Deeply cherished by all who knew him, from devoted family to friends whose bonds spanned more than fifty years, Leo’s presence continued to bring joy, laughter, and love to everyone around him. Even as dementia progressed over the past three and a half years, his gentle spirit never wavered. The staff and residents at the memory care facility often described him as “so nice” and “so sweet.” That tenderness never left him; it was who he was at his core.

Leo’s legacy is one of joy, service, music, laughter, advocacy, and unwavering love. We hold onto the promise of eternal life and the peace that this is not goodbye, but “see you again in Heaven.”

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites you to honor Leo’s life through a contribution to his GoFundMe memorial fund, https://gofund.me/95227c2ca, which will support his funeral and burial arrangements and ensure he is celebrated in the beautiful and dignified way he deserves. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association in Leo’s honor so that his life may continue to bless others and bring hope to families facing dementia.
