Karen "Mum" Marino nee Angarone, of Park Ridge IL. passed away at the family home on Feb. 14th, in the loving presence of her four children. They held her hands as she departed on her journey to Eternal Peace. Born on June 2, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Karen graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1968, crowned Homecoming Queen, it was no surprise how many were drawn to her even as a young teen. Karen dedicated herself to raising, teaching and showing her children, Faith, Values and Love and to enjoy the Goodness of Life.
Many years later she decided it was time she pursued a lifelong passion and dream and studied at The Le Cordon Bleu Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago. Karen didn't stop there. She went on to design, build, and bring to life Tony Rocco's River North: her restaurant where she loved to gather, serve, talk, laugh and feed anyone & everyone with her homemade signature recipes. A radiant person, Karen was fiercely kind, relentlessly loving, honest and insightful, sincerely trustworthy, and undeniably funny. She was the anchor of Marino Ship and always kept her loved ones close, no matter the distance or location.
Karen is survived by her children, who she endlessly adored: Jennifer, Nicole, Lauren and Anthony (Lauren E.); her favorite former Husband, Greg Marino; the lights of her life, her Darlings, her grandchildren: Isabela Kae, Caroline Adrian, Catherine Rose, Nicholas Anthony, Anthony Gregory, Anne Marie, Sophia Louise, and Ava Elizabeth; her siblings & best of friends, Ed (Patsy) Angarone, Ken (Barb) Angarone, Tina (Jim) Clifton, Terri Powers and Bonnie (Randy) Lafoone; her nieces, nephews, and godchildren, Michael, Brian, Matthew, *Peaches
