June M. Palmer (née Gebhardt) was born in Chicago, IL on January 31, 1931 and passed from this life on March 30, 2018 in Phoenix AZ. Wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, she filled these roles with strength and determination.She is preceded in death by her husband, William G. Palmer and sister, Marlene Kernan. She is survived by children Linda Weiss, Susan (John Bowers), Bruce (Christine), Sandra (Don Feetterer) and Kimberly (Drew Carson) and Grandchildren Phillip Weiss, Sarah (Tommy) Eagleton, Russell Weiss, Kenneth Palmer, Laura (David) Landsberger, Rachel Feetterer, David Feetterer and Andrew Carson and Great Grandchildren Henry Eagleton and Emily Eagleton. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Gebhardt, and many nieces and nephews, most notably Steven (Dorothy) Kernan, Patricia (Michael) O’Hara and Diane (Carl) Schroeder and great nieces Tara, Katlyn and Mira. June was focused on family as represented by her many activities and leadership responsibilities. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as the Guardian of Bethel 7, International Order of Job’s Daughters. In 1976-1977, she served as the Grand Guardian of the State of Illinois, IOJD. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and very active in the PTA for Jahn School in Chicago. She worked as a Teacher Aide for the Chicago Board of Education. June was a creative and artistic individual and her sewing skills won many gold ribbons from PTA sewing contests. She was always involved in many projects and believed it was important to keep her hands and mind active. She spent many years as a member of the Epiphany United Church of Christ in Chicago and later was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Skokie. She served as church secretary, provided liturgy support and social services within the churches to which she belonged. For the last years she has suffered with severe arthritis and pain in addition to a heart condition, legal blindness and advancing Dementia. She was as stoic as ever and approached these disabilities with the fierceness that she approached all of her life. She is now in a better place and reunited with those who have gone before.In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Visitation Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge. Interment will follow at Irving Park Cemetery.
