Joyce Cornett

Joyce Cornett (nee Sosnowski), age 82, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on June 2, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Alex F. Sosnowski and the late Marie Owca.

Joyce was the beloved wife of the late William J. Cornett and the late Paul C. Tropp. Loving mother of Kimberly Van Stockum, Lisa (Mark) Pienkowski, Paula (Bill) Bush, and Christine (Randy) Elliott. Cherished grandmother, affectionately known as “GMA,” to Derrick, Kaitlyn (Tony), Taylor Marie (Mitch), Katrena, Claire, Matthew, Mackenzie, Jacob, Kaya, Austyn, Holly, Ian, Sarah, Lizzie, and Lorelyn. Dearest great-grandmother of Delaney, Ryder, Raymond, Payton, Harper, and James. Fond sister of the late Alex (the late Barbara) Sosnowski and the late Fred Sosnowski. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews and godmother to many.

Joyce had a wonderful love for life and enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She loved visiting the casinos, watching Wheel of Fortune and her favorite crime shows, and cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs. She was also known for making delicious homemade crepes and had a special fondness for the color purple. Above all, Joyce adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She was a dear friend to many throughout her long life and will be remembered for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the special place she held in the hearts of all who knew her.

Joyce leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a family who will forever cherish her. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to live on through the generations she brought together.

Visitation for Joyce will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, Illinois. The funeral will take place on Friday with the time and location pending.
