Serpico, Josephine (Maria Guiseppa Perri), age 99, formally of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2021.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, Josephine lovingly cared for her children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Born May 4, 1921, daughter of Carmela and Louis Perri, and one of 11 children. Josephine married John Serpico on June 21, 1941 and raised her family in Chicago and Norridge, IL.
Josephine was an intelligent, strong-willed Italian mother and grandmother, and the matriarch of her family. Affectionately known to her loved ones as, “Ma, Josie, Auntie, Nonna, or Grammy”, Josephine greatly enjoyed the later years of her life helping to raise her four grandchildren. Josephine was a wonderful cook and loved nothing more than making dinner for her family and talking with loved ones around the kitchen table.
Josephine had a spectacular sense of style and was always meticulously dressed. She loved a good romance novel, Serpico family gatherings, the occasional card game, and playing the lottery. Josephine was a devout Catholic and a regular attendee at St. Mary’s Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband of 37 years, John.
Josephine is survived by her two children, Maryann (Danny) Hoffenkamp of Kenosha, WI and John (Rhonda) Serpico of Norridge, IL; four grandchildren, Elisabeth (Brendan) Roche, Daniel (Jennifer) Hoffenkamp, Nicole (Marco) Palumbo, and Kathryne Serpico; and seven great-grandchildren, Mary Kathleen, Brendan, Henry, and Francesca Roche; Emma and Daniel Hoffenkamp; and Michael John Palumbo, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation Saturday January 9th from 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Prayer Service will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel immediately following Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Due to the current health guidelines, we are limited to 10 attendees at a time. We kindly ask that you quickly exit the funeral home after paying your respects to the family so that all visitors have an opportunity to enter. Please wear masks and practice proper social distancing. Until further notice, the coffee room is not available for use. Please refrain from bringing food or beverage into the funeral home.
