Joseph Mugnaini
March 20, 1949 — July 18, 2025
Joseph Mugnaini, 76, of Norridge, IL, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, with his beloved children at his side. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Mugnaini (Elizabeth Westfall), son Jason Mugnaini (Julie); four grandchildren; and his sisters, Anne Giambrone and Maria Mazzoni (Joe). He was a treasured uncle, cousin and lifelong friend to many.
Joe was born on March 20, 1949, in Chicago, to Umberto and Fedora Mugnaini. He grew up with strong Italian roots and values and developed an unwavering devotion to those he cared about. He was a survivor of the Our Lady of the Angels school fire, an experience that shaped his deep appreciation for life and strengthened his quiet resilience.
A kind and generous man, Joe made friends wherever he went – not through grand gestures but through steady loyalty, warmth, and the simple gift of being fully present. To know Joe was to know a man who listened deeply, gave selflessly, and lived with unwavering integrity, even in the face of hardship.
Joe found great joy in life’s everyday pleasures. Long lunches and conversations with family and friends, sharing countless stories with his sisters, and golfing with many. Above all, he cherished time with his children and found his proudest joy in being Grandpa Joe. His heart was fullest when speaking of his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Everett, Amelia, and Jimmy.
Joe shared many years with Julie Ann Peters, a loving partner and companion whose care and devotion brought him joy and affection.
His career at Sears corporate office spanned three decades. Then, through perseverance and grit, he built a new chapter in his professional life, helping to open a supportive living facility in Gurnee, IL. A project that took years of dedication, it reflected his commitment to caring for others. Throughout all this, he carried on his father’s legacy serving as a tax preparer for many small businesses and long-time family friends.
Joe’s family wishes to offer deep gratitude to the staff members of Resurrection Hospital and Rainbow Hospice ARK for providing compassionate care during Joe’s final days.
