Decorated Vietnam Veteran and Retired Chicago Police Officer Joseph Diaz, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 16th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Joe served with honor and distinction in the Vietnam War, earning several commendations for his bravery in combat. Following his military service, Joe dedicated over 40 years to the Chicago Police Department, where he was known for his integrity, toughness, and deep commitment to the community he served. Joe's life was one of service — to his country, his city, and his family. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, unshakable loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried through every chapter of his life. Joe’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, as a marine, as an officer, as a father and as a friend. Cherished husband of Diane Diaz nee Veith; loving father of Shannon Diaz and Brendan (Linzi) Diaz; beloved son of the late Luis and Maria Diaz nee Perera; fond grandfather of Henry Joseph; dear brother of Rachel (Larry) Poli and the late Bill Diaz; Brother-in-law of Daniel (Lynn) Veith and Carol (Brian) Powers and the late Steve (Mary) Veith; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday July 8th 3-5 p.m. at Carmine's 9850 W Berwyn, Rosemont, IL.
