Joseph "Joe" Di Bartolo, age 78, passed away suddenly on April 29, 2026. Joe was born on November 15, 1947, in Raiano, Italy, to the late Rocco Di Bartolo and the late Tilde (nee DiBerardino) Di Bartolo.
Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart for his valor during the Vietnam War. He carried his service with quiet pride throughout his life.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine “Gerry” Di Bartolo (nee Nigro). Loving father of Joseph (Noelle) Di Bartolo, Jerry (Lori) Di Bartolo, and Consilia (Marco) Giustino. Cherished grandfather of Joey, Brittney, Anthony, Natalie, Tyler, Dina, Chelsea, Brianna, Charlee, and Isabelle. Dear brother of Augusta (the late Tony) Gianni, Anna (the late Mike) Rante, and the late Sabina (the late Amadeo) De Santis, the late Fred (Clara) Di Bartolo, and the late Philip (Elizabeth) Di Bartolo. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews and dear friend to many.
The loss of his beloved wife, Geraldine, had a profound impact on Joe, and he missed her every day of his life. He was a devoted father whose love for his three children shaped the foundation of their lives. He took pride in who they became, offering steady guidance, quiet strength, and unwavering support through every stage. His presence was constant, and his love was something they could always count on. He also shared a special relationship with each of his grandchildren, each of whom held a unique and cherished place in his heart.
Joe dedicated many years working with the model railroad at the Chicago Botanic Garden, where his passion and craftsmanship brought joy to countless visitors. He had a deep love for photography and could often be found capturing special moments through his lens. He also loved listening to Italian music, which kept him closely connected to his heritage. Joe especially enjoyed spending time at the Sunday farmers market in Waterside, Florida, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of good food, community, and sunshine. He gave his time as a youth sports coach, making a lasting impact on the lives of the young people he mentored. A devoted Chicago sports fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams.
Joe will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the love he had for his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be cherished forever.
A celebration of Joe's life will be announced at a later date.
