In Loving Memory of Joseph Caputo Jr. (Ret. C.P.D.)

Joseph Caputo Jr., retired Chicago Police Department officer, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lasting legacy of dedicated service, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. Throughout his career, Joseph proudly served and protected his community with honor and commitment, earning the respect of those who knew him. Joseph was also the past president of The Italian American Police Association of Illinois.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (née Lapiana) Caputo, with whom he shared a remarkable 73 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. He was the loving father of Georgann Caputo (Greg Wilson), Gina DeVeno (Ignatius DeVeno), Joseph Caputo III (Annita née Giannini) and Frank Caputo.

Joseph was a cherished grandfather to Rachael Cunningham, Leah Cunningham Pouw (Bryson Pouw), Philip DeVeno (Nina Nee Drew) Nicola DeVeno, David DeVeno, Alexandria Caputo Schuller (Michael Schuller), Joseph G. Caputo, and Jake Caputo. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Roman Pouw, Livia Pouw, Mia DeVeno, Luca DeVeno, James Schuller, and Max Schuller.

Joseph will be remembered for his strength, integrity, dedication to his community, and, above all, the deep love he held for his family. His life was a testament to the values of loyalty, service, and devotion, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation for Joseph will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a service at 7:45 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, Illinois. Interment will take place at a later date.
