John Hazlett

October 25, 1938 — March 5, 2021

John “Jack” Edwin Hazlett, 82, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Friday, March 5, 2021, in his sleep, at his home in Park Ridge, Illinois. The son of Glenn and Ardine (Coakley) Hazlett, Jack was born in Chicago on October 25, 1938. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Waytula), 61 years ago. He is the proud father of 3 children including Patricia (a/k/a Sissy) Hazlett and Deborah Hazlett. The adoring Poppie of Amanda (Hazlett) Murphy and “his Jackie”, Jacqueline Hazlett. Loving great-grandfather of Bradley and Tyler Murphy. And favorite Poppie to his furry family: Mickey, Tessy and Sharpie - all whom miss him dearly. Dear brother of the late Lynne (Hazlett) Charon. Brother-in-law of Robert and Patricia (Waytula) Mills and Anthony and Madeline (Melberg) Waytula. Jack was an uncle, cousin and friend to many. Jack was unquestionably a people person, known for his stories and quick comebacks and was frequently referred to as the “Mayor of Bonita Drive” since he could regularly be seen sitting in front of his house talking with current and former neighbors that stopped by.
Jack was the successful owner/operator of the former Haz-Way Delivery Service, loved golfing and bowling and took pride in every basketball, softball, tennis, badminton and bowling competition his kids and grandkids took part in. He was always a teacher, a supporter and our # 1 fan! Visitation will be held at Cumberland Chapels on Friday from 9am-11am. Attendance is limited to 50 persons at any one time and masks are mandatory. There will be a mass of Christian Burial at noon at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church, Park Ridge, Illinois. Due to Covid restrictions, attendance at the Mass is limited to 120 persons. Attendees must register online.
