John P. "Jack" Dorgan, age 90, U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024. John was the beloved husband of the late Dolores, nee Kiewert; loving father of Darlene (Robert) Schnur, Bruce (Marlene Robinson) Brabec, the late Larry (Julie) Brabec, the late Anthony Brabec and the late Nancie Brabec; dear son of the late Esther, nee Malone, and the late Jeremiah Dorgan; cherished grandfather of Samantha Schnur, Darcie Dillon, Dawn Brabec McCarroll, Jacia Witt, Kelden Witt, Erich Geisler, Brad Brabec, Matthew Brabec, Ashleigh Hersey and the late Liam Wood; great grandfather of 15 and great great grandfather of 3.
John was a devoted Catholic and will be remembered for his love of life, his joy of travel, his love of service for others including volunteer work at the Providence Soup Kitchen at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, delivering food for Meals On Wheels, and being a greeter at Shriners Children's Hospital. Jack was a member of the
American Legion, Morton Grove Post 134 and past Commander of their Rifle Squad.
He was Commander of the AMVETS Ted Kinsman Post #13 in 2007-08. He loved meeting new people and loved living in Chicago. He always found something fun to do around the city. His love of the Art Institute, cultural festivals and theater were things he shared with those around him. He traveled to all the continents and stayed at hostels. Visitation Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, and proceed to Saint Monica Church in Chicago for Mass at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
