Joanne O'Leary, nee McArdle. Best known for her contagious smile and loving nature. She was born and raised in Chicago and was welcomed home to the lord on Aug. 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She and her beloved husband; Edward, of 54 years raised six children: Edward III, Timothy, Catherine, Maureen, Maribeth, and John Michael. Mother-in-law to Diane and Laura. Proud grandmother to Kelly, William, Jessica, John, Colin, Daniel, Kevin, Dylan, Megan and Kate. Loving daughter of the late John and Marian McArdle. Youngest sister of the late Alice, Kay, Loretta, Agnes, and Geraldine. Joanne was a founding member of St. Angela's School Board and the Home & School Association; served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of St. Eugene's Altar and Rosary Society; She was an Eucharistic Minister, served on the Bereavement Committee and The Parish Council. After a long career with The Chicago Board of Trade, Joanne became a volunteer at St. Benedict Nursing Home; traveled the world and enjoyed time at her condo in Lake Geneva. Joanne will be sorely missed and will forever be remembered for her Irish roots and her remarkable ability to develop friendships everywhere she went. Visitation Wednesday Aug. 28 from 4 to 9:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral Thursday 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home and then will proceed to St. Eugene Church, 7958 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
